Travelling to the village of Morillon by road, rail or air is easy as Morillon is probably the closest French Ski resort to the UK - just 50 minutes southeast of Geneva and just 17 kilometres from the motorway exit at Cluses.

By Road

It is about 7 to 9 hours from Calais.

From Calais take the A26/A4/A26 to Troyes via Reims.

From Troyes take the A5 to Langres

From Langres take the A31 to Bourg en Bresse

From Bourg en Bresse take the A39 to Dijon

From Dijon take the A40 to Geneva and the Mont Blanc tunnel

Exit the autoroute at Junction 18 (Scionzier, Cluses)

Go through Cluses following the signs for Taninges, Samoens, Morillon, Les Gets, Morzine on the D907

After going up the hill to Chatillon sur Cluses continue straight on until a right turn on a hairpin 1 km the other side of Chatillon sur Cluses. This is signposted the D4 direction Morillon and Samoens.

The road runs along the valley floor and after 6km you come to Morillon. Turn left before you enter the town just before the garage following the directions to Verchaix.

You are now less than 1km away from the chalet.

Final detailed directions on booking.

By train

In 2009 / 2010 the ‘snow train’ will not operate from St Pancras to the French Alps overnight. Eurostar operates either a day or a night service to the Alps. However, local trains from the destinations that the ski service finishes in will take between 4 and 6 hours to get to Cluses with 3 changes necessary. It is probably better to get a regular train from St Pancras and change at Paris (you need to get across Paris from one station to another) and then travel on to Annecy or Cluses direct. Cluses train station is serviced by the fast TGV service. For prices and times see

www.raileurope.co.uk

http://www.seat61.com/France.htm#Alps

There are main train stations in Annecy and Geneva. There is a local train service to Cluses (gare de Cluses 74300). From Annecy to Cluses no changes are needed and the journey takes about an hour. For Geneva to Cluses, you may have to change at Annemasse and the journey is between 1 and 2 hours depending on connections and the time of year. Please note there are 2 train stations in Geneva, and the journey is shorter with fewer changes if you leave from ‘GENEVE gare de gèneves eaux vives 00000’. You will need a taxi to get you from the airport to the train station. For timetables from Geneva to Cluses click on the link TIMETABLES FROM GENEVA TO CLUSES and then scroll down to timetable no.42 Geneve Euax vives - Annemasse- St Gervais, OR cut and paste the following address into your search engine and you can download the latest pdf timetable.

The train is the cheapest way to travel from Geneva to Cluses with an adult one way ticket at about 9€ click on TRAIN FARES BETWEEN GENEVA AND CLUSES.    Type Geneve Eaux Vives as one station and Cluses 74 as the other to get a price.

See the websites below for more on the local regional trains.

For transfer from Cluses train station there are 2 companies we can recommend. Try www.alps-direct.com or ‘ski lifts’ (click on the logo / link). Out of season we would recommend you hire a car as taxis can be expensive and a car allows you greater flexibility on holiday. Local buses from the train station can be few out of the ski season. The cost one way on public buses from Cluses to Morillon is around 7€. See www.ot-morillon.fr/about-morillon/access-by-bus.php

By air

The closest airport is Geneva to which most major airlines fly. You can go on the internet to research the main airlines direct on their websites or you can use internet sites that find the best deals for you. Some useful sites are listed below. These are just a few of many.

Airport transfer

It is not essential to have a car in the resort as although the main supermarket is out of town, there is a village supermarket and restaurants nearby as well as a “meals to your door” services. Here are 2 businesses who offer ready cooked meals to your door in the evening, or a cook in your kitchen to cook and wash up for you. See either www.delaterre.eu.com or "Alpine Frontiers" info@alpinefrontiers.co.uk. email them before you leave for more information.

For transfer from the airport in the ski season there is the train (see above for details), frequent public buses (see below for details) as well as many private companies providing minibuses to the ski resorts.

We can recommend the following.

You can either share a minibus with someone else, rates vary from 40€ one way for one person, up to 170€ one way for 8. This company also offers transfers in the summer and will transport your bike to the chalet from the airport. They also offer transport from Cluses Train Station. Try clicking on the logo/link for a quote.

There are local contacts in Samoens who specialise in airport transfer. These must be booked in advance as they are small companies and are rapidly booked up. Email rayslade@pativerdans.com for more information.

Try www.alps-direct.com  or email info@alps-direct.com Tel 00 33 (0)4 50 90 30 08 or mobiles 00 33 (0)6 12 98 12 50 or 00 33 (0)6 85 31 98 07. English is spoken. Transport from Geneva to Cluses, Annecy, Grand Massif, Portes du Soleil, Chamonix.

Car hire

The easiest way to transfer from the airport is to hire your own car, which then gives you the freedom to go out to neighbouring villages, shop in the out of town supermarket if you are self catering, and rescue your friends if they miss the last lift back over to Morillon. It is also the quickest way to get to the lifts in the morning if you are trying to get to ski school on time.  A small car (e.g. fiat panda) for hire costs around £200 - £270 for the week, a car which can seat 5 can be £300 - £460 for the week.

If you are a large party of 8 to 10, you could do both and hire a small car for shopping trips in the resort, the rest sharing an airport transfer to get to the chalet. This would work out at about £50 extra per person onto the cost of the holiday.
